What is Takt Time?
Takt time or takt time is a concept highly used in the industry to refer to the manufacturing rhythm that must be maintained in a company to respond to customer demands for a just in time delivery.
This concept as a production strategy is very useful when there is a constant demand from customers with limited production time and as a tool for lean manufacturing system is one of the simplest and helps to avoid overproduction problems.
Therefore, we can say that Takt Time is the “ideal” manufacturing rhythm.
How is Takt Time calculated?

Takt Time = Available Time / Customer Demand
To calcúlate the takt time of a production line, the net Working time during a shift is divided by the number of products required by the customer.
Simply put, if a factory sells one product every minute, it means that the cycle time per product must be less than one minute to meet the demand. Based on this measurement, the factory must establish a production pace that is stable and aligned with demand with an estimated, theoretical time that serves as an indicator to know if they are producing above or below expectations. Therefore, takt time is a value defined by the customer, not by the company.
A tool that helps achieve the company’s target Takt Time is the Proalnet Opttime Floor Control software.
Opttime helps measure cycle time in the production area as follows:
- Precisely controlling units and times.
- Automatically measuring topare times, machine breakdowns, speed, raw materials, and waste.
- Displaying all connected machines and their key indicators in real-time.
- Justifying stoppages.
- Displaying information from any device.
- Generating detailed histories and exporting them to Excel.
- Receiving alerts for stoppages and sepes on your mobile device.
It’s important not to confuse Takt time with Lead Time or Cycle Time as they have diferente purposes.
Cycle Time describes the time from when the order is placed until all process steps are completed and the product is delivered to the customer, including logistics activities.
Set the production pace or takt time with our floor control software OPTTIME as it allows you to automatically measure speed, times, machine stoppages and breakdowns, raw materials, and waste, among other things. Additionally, it will help you save time, reduce costs, and increase employee satisfaction since our tool allows you to manage, monitor in real-time, and make informed decisions to improve your team’s efficiency.
At Proalnet, we are experts in productivity indicator management, and we have a specialized human team in the execution of manufacturing systems (MES System)..
